About Us
Actually, there is no "us." It's just a "me."
Packetvision is
the result of one man's efforts. I started providing products and
services as an independent Information Technology consultant in the
spring of 2002. When I say independent, I truly mean independent. I
have no affiliations or reseller agreements with any companies
whatsoever. In fact, I even let my Cisco, Citrix, and other
certifications lapse. Why? Simple: vendor neutrality. My customers hire
me because I offer them an unbiased view of what products and services
best suit their needs.
- I don't have any sales quotas to meet or
minimum
quarterly requirements to surpass to keep any sort of reseller status.
- I don't have suppliers or vendors feeding me
glossy
marketing slicks or sample products. Rather, all products start on a
level playing field (yes, even Microsoft Windows solutions are
evaluated alongside every alternative).
- Everything I produce, support, maintain, and
suggest
for my customers is tailor fit to the customer's needs.
Often, potential customers have already chosen a specific product or
platform. While I do offer services and support based on existing or
proprietary setups and products, the true value of my expertise is in
finding the right solution to fit a customer's exact needs.
What else do I bring to the table? Experience, and
lots
of it.
Since the 1980's, my world has revolved around computers. Using them,
programming them, fixing them, and networking them. I began using
computers professionally in the early 1990's. Since that time I have
covered a wide variety of roles and installed and supported a wide
variety of technologies. Having been exposed to UNIX Operating Systems
heavily while working for the U.S. government, I always preferred UNIX
variants for most computing functions. In 1996 I began running,
learning, and supporting Open Source Software for personal and
commercial uses. My career as a consultant began in 1998, and has
focused mainly on the abilities of Open Source Software to act as
crucial parts of homogeneous UNIX-, Novell-, and Windows-based networks.
